Big School Read

This January Neston High School is launching The Big School Read of The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. Our aim is to encourage as many members of the school and wider community to get involved in reading the novel and considering the issues surrounding it.

Striped Pyjamas Book

As part of The Big School Read we will be commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day on Wednesday 27th January with a minute’s silence and readings in the library at lunchtime. Details of other events, including a Community Evening on Wednesday 10th March and a Community Film Night in April, will follow.

In order to encourage as many students as possible to read the novel we are holding lunchtime reading sessions in the library where students who prefer to read as a group are invited to come and hear members of staff reading the novel. There are also a number of copies available to withdraw from the school and local libraries.

This is a great opportunity to not only read an insightful and moving novel but also get involved with the community around you. This could mean considering The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas as your next Book Group Read, reading a chapter each night with your family or simply coming along to one of the community events we will be holding over the rest of the school year. So why not start reading today?!
