Admissions

Admissions Neston´s admission policy is in line with Cheshire West and Chester Council. Full information and guidance is available at www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk >Education and Learning>Schools>Admissions.

We admit students attending our partner primary schools: Bishop Wilson, Neston Primary, Parkgate, Willaston and Woodfall and those students living in our designated area. The school is regularly over subscribed with large numbers of students opting to come to us from the surrounding areas of Wirral and Cheshire.

Admissions Criteria

  1. Pupils resident within the designated catchment zone of the school, together with Children in Public Care (‘looked after children’) and pupils for whom advice from a medical practitioner or psychologist has been provided in support of admission to a particular school.

  2. Siblings – pupils with elder brothers or sisters including half-brothers and sisters and unrelated children living together as part of one household already attending the preferred school and expected to continue at the school in the following school year.

  3. Pupils not resident within a school’s local catchment zone but attending a school designated as a partner/feeder school for admissions purposes.

  4. Pupils for whom there are exceptional personal/domestic circumstances presented by the parents which justify, in the Council’s view, admission to a particular school (few applications fall within this category).

  5. Pupils living nearest to the school measured using an ‘address-point system’.

NB. For Wirral Parents the submission date for the preferences form is 31st October 2009.

  • The Common Application Form (CAF) must be used by all Cheshire parents applying for a school place, whether inside or outside Cheshire. Similarly Wirral parents who wish to put Neston High School as a preference should do so on the Wirral form. Applications must be made on the application form provided by the authority where you live.

  • Following receipt of the forms, preferences will be electronically transferred between each authority.

  • Places will be allocated on the basis of the ‘equal preference’ model. This means that all preferences listed by parents/carers will initially be considered without reference to the ranking. Where a pupil can potentially be offered more than one place, the offer will be for the place ranked highest by parents/carers on the application form.

  • If parents still have queries, further information on these arrangements is contained within the Authority’s booklet ‘Transferring to Secondary School 2010–2011’ and on the Council’s website at www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/admissions

Alternatively, you can speak to an adviser by contacting the Authority on 0300 123 7039.
